Who is Koki Mizuno?
Early life and education
Koki Mizuno was born in Shizuoka, Japan. He attended Shimizu Commercial High School before starting his professional athletic career in 2004.
He began his path in professional sports by joining JEF United Ichihara, which later became known as JEF United Chiba.
Professional football career
Koki Mizuno played for JEF United Chiba and helped the team win the J.League Cup in both 2005 and 2006. During the 2006 tournament, he was awarded the title of most valuable player. His club history also includes stints with Ventforet Kofu, Kashiwa Reysol, and Vegalta Sendai.
In January 2008, he signed with the Scottish side Celtic F.C. After a successful work permit appeal. He made his league debut for the club against Motherwell on 8 November 2008. Koki scored his first goal for Celtic in a match against Falkirk later that year, receiving an assist from Shunsuke Nakamura.
After leaving Celtic in July 2010, he moved to the J2 League side Kashiwa Reysol during the summer. However, a knee ligament injury occurred during his first game for the club, which prevented him from playing for the remainder of the 2010 season. He eventually finished his career playing for Iwate Grulla Morioka in the J3 League.
International career highlights
Koki Mizuno represented the Japan national team on several occasions. He earned a total of 4 caps for his country. His first appearance for the full national squad occurred on 24 March 2007 in a match against Peru.
He was part of the Japanese squad during the 2007 Asian Cup and appeared in two games as a substitute. Earlier in his career, he played for the Japanese Under-20 team at the 2005 World Youth Championship, where he scored one goal against Benin.
