Early life and education
Kristen Joy Schaal was born on January 24, 1978, in Longmont, Colorado. She grew up on a cattle ranch located in a rural area near Boulder. Her father worked in construction while her mother worked as a secretary.
She attended Skyline High School and graduated in 1996. After finishing high school, she spent one year studying at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She eventually earned her degree from Northwestern University.
Comedy career and beginnings
In 2000, Kristen moved to New York to start her career in comedy. She found success at the People's Improv Theatre, where she performed character work. This work helped her earn a spot on a list of the ten funniest new New Yorkers.
