Early life and career
Linda Gray was born in Santa Monica, California, on September 12, 1940. She grew up in Culver City, where her father worked as a watchmaker and operated a local shop. Before starting her professional acting career, she worked as a model during the 1960s and appeared in numerous television commercials.
Her early acting work included brief appearances in feature films such as Under the Yum Yum Tree and Palm Springs Weekend. She also secured guest roles in various television series during the 1970s before signing a contract with Universal Studios.
Rise to fame on Dallas
Linda Gray achieved widespread recognition and stardom for her portrayal of Sue Ellen Ewing on the CBS drama series Dallas. She appeared on the show from 1978 to 1989, and returned for subsequent television movies and the 2012 revival series on TNT.

Linda Gray was married to art director and photographer Ed Thrasher from 1962 until their divorce in 1983. The marriage resulted in two children, Jeff and Kehly, and she later became a grandmother. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
