Early life and education
Lindsey Stirling grew up in a modest home as the middle daughter of Stephen and Diane Stirling. Because of financial constraints, her parents arranged for her to receive half-length violin lessons. Despite early feedback that such limited instruction would not be effective, she began her musical training at age five.
She attended Mesquite High School and previously went to Greenfield Junior High. During her teenage years, she was a member of a rock group called Stomp on Melvin. She also spent about a year playing with the Charley Jenkins Band. In addition to music, she participated in competitions like America's Junior Miss, where she won a state title and a Spirit Award.
Rise to fame on YouTube
Lindsey Stirling started her YouTube channel, Lindseystomp, in 2007. Her popularity grew significantly after she collaborated with cinematographer Devin Graham on a video for her song Spontaneous Me in 2011.
