Who is Luke Grimes?
Early life and background
Luke Timothy Grimes was born in Dayton, Ohio. His father worked as a Pentecostal pastor. He completed his secondary education at Dayton Christian High School, graduating in 2002. After finishing high school, he relocated to New York City to pursue formal training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Early acting career
His film career began with appearances in titles such as All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, War Eagle, Arkansas, and the 2009 film Assassination of a High School President. He joined the cast of the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters as Ryan Lafferty, eventually becoming a series regular during the show's fourth season.
In 2010, he starred in an FX movie pilot called Outlaw Country, where he played a cowboy character named Eli Larkin. Though the network did not pick it up for a full series, the pilot was broadcast as a television movie in 2012. He also appeared that year in the Liam Neeson thriller Taken 2 as the boyfriend of Neeson's character's daughter.
Major roles and Yellowstone
Luke Grimes gained significant recognition for his role as Navy SEAL Marc Alan Lee in the 2014 film American Sniper. He also portrayed Elliot, the brother of Christian Grey, in the Fifty Shades of Grey film trilogy, which included installments released in 2015, 2017, and 2018. Also, he appeared as Todd Belkin in the 2015 movie Freeheld.
His most well-known television work occurred between 2018 and 2024 when he starred as Kayce Dutton in the Paramount Network drama Yellowstone alongside Kevin Costner. He was later cast in the CBS series Marshals, which was scheduled for 2026.
Music career and personal life
Beyond acting, he is a musician who released a debut self-titled album in March 2024. He followed this with a second album titled RedBird in April 2026, which featured the song Haunted on the first episode of Marshals. In early 2024, he also released the live track Burn from Nashville on Spotify.
Luke Grimes married Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, a Brazilian model, in November 2019. The couple relocated to the Bitterroot Valley in southwestern Montana in 2020. They welcomed their first child, a son named Rigel Randolph Grimes, in the fall of 2024.
