Biography
Who is Manuel Turizo?
Early life and musical beginnings
Manuel Turizo grew up in the coastal town of Monteria, Colombia. When he was born, his parents gifted a guitar and microphone to his older brother Julian so he would not feel jealous of the new baby. Years later, Manuel tried to play his brother's guitar, but he felt he lacked the aptitude for it. Instead, he began developing his singing voice after taking lessons with a Cuban music teacher.
As a child, Manuel practiced vocals by singing along to his favorite tracks while his brother accompanied him on guitar, ukulele, and vocal harmonies. His original goal was to become a veterinarian, but he eventually decided to pursue music instead. He began writing songs more consistently while his brother was away earning a postgraduate degree in Medellin.
Rise to fame and hit songs
Manuel started his professional music career in 2016 by releasing his first two singles, Baila Conmigo and Vamonos. These releases were followed by his breakout hit single Una Lady Como Tú, which came out on March 16, 2017. The song granted him widespread popularity across Latin America, and its official music video reached over 1.4 billion views on YouTube by June 2020. Within a year of its release, the track was streamed more than 235 million times on Spotify.
Following this success, he collaborated with Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Valentino on the single Besame in May 2017. Billboard subsequently included Manuel in its list of ten Latin artists to watch in 2018. In September 2018, he secured his first Billboard Hot 100 charting hit by collaborating with Ozuna on the single Vaina Loca, which peaked at number 94 and stayed on the chart for two weeks.
Albums and chart success
In March 2019, Manuel achieved his first number one song on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart with the track Sola. Later that year, on August 23, 2019, he released his debut studio album titled ADN. The record featured collaborations with Zion and Lennox, Noriel, Ozuna, Darell, Nicky Jam, Sech, and Anuel AA. ADN peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot Latin Albums chart.
Following his debut album, Manuel continued releasing music and expanding his discography over the next several years. He released the albums Dopamina in 2021, 2000 in 2023, 201 in 2024, and Apambichao in 2026. His most well-known single remains the 2022 release La Bachata, which achieved big international popularity.
Television coaching and musical style
In 2025, Manuel was featured as a coach on the tenth season of La Voz Kids Spain alongside David Bisbal, Edurne, and Lola Indigo. His final artist, Lucas Paulano, won the competition, making Manuel the winning coach of the season. He is also scheduled to return to the television show in 2027 as a coach on the twelfth season.
Manuel comes from a musical family and forms a duo with his brother Julian, where Manuel handles lead vocals while Julian plays the ukulele. In addition to reggaeton, his music contains influences from trap, urban contemporary, pop, R&B, and vallenato. Billboard has described his vocals as sultry and deep, and his vocal range is classified as baritone.
