Early life and education
Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1969, in Huntington, New York, on Long Island. Her mother Patricia was a former opera singer and vocal coach, and her father Alfred Roy Carey was an aeronautical engineer. She grew up with her older sister Alison and her elder brother Morgan after her parents divorced.
During her school years, Mariah excelled in the arts, including music and literature. She began writing poetry and lyrics while attending Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, where she graduated in 1987.
