Who is Matt Bellamy?
Early life and background
Matthew James Bellamy was born on June 9, 1978, in Cambridge, United Kingdom. His father, George Bellamy, was the rhythm guitarist for the 1960s pop group the Tornados. After living in Cambridge during his early childhood, his family moved to Teignmouth in Devon.
During his school years in Teignmouth, Matt Bellamy took piano lessons and played in several local bands with schoolmates. He attended Exeter College in Devon, where he studied music at A level before pursuing a professional career in the music industry.
Rise to fame with Muse
Matt Bellamy formed the band Muse with fellow students Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme after winning a school battle of the bands competition in 1994. The group developed a distinct sound blending alternative rock, progressive rock, and classical influences.
Muse released their debut studio album, Showbiz, in 1999. They achieved widespread international success with subsequent albums such as Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and Black Holes and Revelations, establishing themselves as a major stadium-level rock act.
Awards and commercial success
With Muse, Matt Bellamy has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. The band has received numerous accolades throughout their career, including two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album for the records The Resistance and Drones.

Alongside his work with Muse, Matt Bellamy has pursued various solo compositions and collaborative projects. He released the solo track Pray for a compilation album inspired by the television series Game of Thrones, followed by the song Tomorrow's World during the COVID 19 pandemic.
He also plays bass in the supergroup the Jaded Hearts Club and produced their debut album, You've Always Been Here. In addition, he partnered with Manson Guitar Works to design electric guitars and later purchased a majority stake in the company.
