Who is Nana Visitor?
Early life and real name
Nana Visitor was born Nana Tucker on July 26, 1957, in New York City. Her mother, Nenette Charisse, worked as a ballet teacher, and her father, Robert Tucker, worked as a choreographer. She is also a niece of the actress and dancer Cyd Charisse.
In the early 1980s, she adopted the stage name Nana Visitor upon the suggestion of her older brother Paris. She later had her name legally changed to Visitor. She began her career in the 1970s on the Broadway stage in productions such as My One and Only, and she made her film debut in the 1977 horror film The Sentinel under her birth name.
Television and Star Trek career
Nana Visitor appeared in several television programs during the 1970s and 1980s, including the sitcom Ivan the Terrible and soap operas such as Ryan's Hope, The Doctors, and One Life to Live. She also made guest appearances on shows like MacGyver, Remington Steele, Knight Rider, Highway to Heaven, Night Court, In the Heat of the Night, Matlock, and Doogie Howser, M.D.
From 1993 to 1999, she starred as Major and later Colonel Kira Nerys in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Her character was a former freedom fighter from the planet Bajor who became the first officer of the space station. Later in her career, she played Dr. Elizabeth Renfro on Dark Angel and starred as Jean Ritter on the ABC Family series Wildfire. She also provided voice work for Star Trek: Lower Decks and Family Guy, and she published a book about female characters in the Star Trek franchise in 2024.
Family and relationships
Nana Visitor was married to Nick Miscusi from 1989 to 1994, and they have one son together. She later began dating her Star Trek: Deep Space Nine co-star Alexander Siddig, and they married in June 1997 before divorcing in April 2001. They share a son together, and her pregnancy was incorporated into the television series storyline during the fourth and fifth seasons.
In early 2002, she became engaged to Matthew Rimmer, who worked as a company manager for the musical Chicago. They married in April 2003, and their relationship ended in 2007. In addition, she has a sister named Zan Charisse.
