Who is Nasrin Kadri?
Early life and background
Nasrin Kadri was born in Haifa, Israel, on September 2, 1986. She grew up in the city of Lod within an Arab Israeli family. Her father worked as a taxi driver and her mother was a nurse.
During her youth, she was raised in the Muslim faith. Her musical path involved performing in various small bars and clubs for several years before achieving wider recognition.
Religious conversion and identity
Around 2004, Nasrin began a relationship with Aviezer Ben-Moha, a Jewish musician. This period marked the start of her conversion process to Judaism. Although she completed the conversion in 2018 and took the Hebrew name Bracha, her official name remains Nasrin Kadri.
The Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the Israeli Interior Ministry have not recognized her Jewishness because her conversion was handled by a rabbi working independently of official religious authorities. She noted that she chose this specific rabbi to ensure she could continue performing music in public.
Career highlights
She gained television fame in 2011 by winning the star search program Eyal Golan Is Calling You. Her debut studio album was released in 2014. In 2017, she performed at the Sultan's Pool in Jerusalem during a ceremony for Yom HaZikaron after being invited by Miri Regev.
Nasrin also shared a stage with the band Radiohead during their 2017 visit to Israel. In 2018, she released her third album titled Learning to Walk. That same year, she re-recorded Ofra Haza's song Goral Ehad for a tribute album.
Her television career expanded in 2019 when she served as a judge for the fifth season of The Voice Israel. She also performed at the 72nd Israel Independence Day ceremonies on Mount Herzl in 2020. Her discography includes the 2023 album Dreaming.
Family and personal life
In April 2022, Nasrin Kadri married Rom Shamir, a musician from Ashdod, during a ceremony in Rishon LeZion. The couple welcomed a son in October 2022.
In May 2024, she used her social media platforms to condemn Hamas. She responded to a video released by the group involving female hostages, calling their treatment of the women a disgrace that did not align with Islam.
