Early life and background
Nicholas John Robinson was born on March 22, 1995, in Seattle, Washington. He grew up with four younger siblings. He attended Seattle Preparatory School during his freshman year before moving to Los Angeles. This move occurred after he secured a regular role on the television show Melissa & Joey.
He eventually graduated from Campbell Hall School in 2013. Following his graduation, he was accepted to New York University. He attended the College of Arts and Sciences during the summer to continue working on the sitcom Melissa & Joey.
How Nick became famous
The professional acting career for Nick Robinson began at age eleven. His first role was in a stage production of A Christmas Carol. After being recommended by Matt Casella, he signed with the Savage Agency in Los Angeles. During the 2007 to 2008 Writers Guild of America strike, his family returned to Washington where he performed on stage near Seattle.
He gained significant recognition playing Ryder Scanlon on the ABC Family sitcom Melissa & Joey from 2010 to 2015. He also appeared in the Disney Channel movie Frenemies in 2012, playing the character Jake Logan. This period established his presence in television for young audiences.
Film and television career
Nick Robinson transitioned into major film roles with appearances in Jurassic World and the movie The 5th Wave. In 2012, he played Joe Toy in The Kings of Summer. He also appeared in the film Being Charlie, which premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
