Who is Nina Sublati?
Early life and real name
Nina Sublati was born Nino Sulaberidze in Moscow, Russia on January 31, 1995. Her parents are Georgian, and the family moved back to Georgia shortly after her birth. She also spent part of her childhood living in Riga, Latvia. Her musical influences include Janis Joplin, Brian Molko, and Björk.
In 2008, she signed a contract with a modelling agency and began working in the fashion industry. She posed for top magazines after being approached by fashion scouts in early 2009. While working as a model, she performed across Georgia and collaborated with musical acts such as The Mins. In 2011, she joined the Georgian Dream Studio and worked with singer Bera Ivanishvili.
Music career and Eurovision
In 2013, Nina Sublati won the Georgian version of the singing competition Idols. The following year, she released her debut album titled Dare to Be Nina Sublatti, which became the best-selling album in Georgia of all time. The record featured covers of popular tracks including Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey and Uninvited by Alanis Morissette.
In December 2014, she was selected as one of the contestants competing to represent Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. She performed her song Warrior, which was written with Swedish composer Thomas G:son and choreographed by Sacha Jean-Baptiste. She advanced through the semi-finals and finished in eleventh place in the grand final with fifty-one points. Following the contest, the song charted in countries such as Ireland, Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey.
Television and judging
Nina Sublati expanded her television career by taking on judging roles on popular Georgian reality singing shows. In 2016, she joined the panel of the Georgian version of The X Factor alongside Nika Gvaramia, Sofia Nizharadze, and Giorgi Gabunia.
In October 2017, she took on a new role as a judge on the Georgian version of Idols. Her experience as a former winner of the same program allowed her to mentor emerging musical talent in the country.
Personal life and family
Nina Sublati is married to Georgian trumpeter George Shamanauri, and the couple occasionally collaborates on musical projects together. She gave birth to their first child, a son named Alex, in 2020. She also enjoys sketching and has several tattoos on her body that she designed herself.
