Early life and family background
Padmini Kolhapure was born on November 1, 1965, in Maharashtra, India. She grew up in a Marathi family as the second of three daughters. Her parents are Pandharinath Kolhapure and Nirupama Kolhapure. Her father worked as a professional musician and vocalist who played the Veena. Her mother formerly held a position with Air India as ground staff before becoming a full-time chaperone for her daughter's career. Padmini has two sisters, Shivangi Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure. The family surname comes from their ancestral home of Kolhapur in Maharashtra.
Acting and singing career
Padmini started her acting career in 1972 at age seven. She appeared in early films like Zindagi in 1976 and Dream Girl in 1977. Her breakthrough came with the 1978 film Satyam Shivam Sundaram, where she played the young Roopa. Asha Bhosle recommended her to Dev Anand, leading to her casting in Ishk Ishk Ishk in 1975. Beyond acting, she also contributed vocals for several films, including Vidhaata, Daana Pani, and Sadak Chhap. She even recorded an album with Bappi Lahiri titled Music Lovers and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1986.
Later professional work
After limiting her work in the 1990s, Padmini returned to acting in 2004. She has appeared in various Marathi and Hindi films, including Manthan: Ek Amrut Pyala and Eight Shani. She also ventured into production with the film Rockford. Her stage work includes plays like Kaash and Abhi To Mein Jawan Hoon. She made her television debut in the series Ekk Nayi Pehchaan and later appeared in the web series Dil Bekaraar in 2021. In 2011, she appeared in the Malayalam film Karmayogi, which was based on Hamlet.
Personal life and marriage
Padmini met producer Pradeep Sharma, also known as Tutu Sharma, while working on the 1986 film Aisa Pyaar Kahan. The couple married shortly after in 1986. They have one son together named Priyaank Sharma, who was born in February 1990. Priyaank has pursued his own career in the film industry, working as an actor in the 2020 film Sab Kushal Mangal. He married Shaza Morani, the daughter of producer Karim Morani, on February 4, 2021.
