Early life and career beginnings
Born María del Pilar Sánchez Luque in Coria del Río, Spain, the artist began her path into music as a young child. She showed early talent by singing copla and flamenco songs at various public events. Her professional recording path started in 1994 when she signed a contract with the Polygram label. This partnership led to her debut studio album titled Nuestras coplas, which featured cover versions of ten classical tracks originally performed by León and Quiroga.
Musical evolution and awards
Pastora Soler continued to evolve her sound with the 2001 release of Corazón congelado, which was produced by Carlos Jean. The title track was selected as the official song for the 2001 Vuelta a España, and the album achieved platinum certification. Her subsequent work, Deseo, released in 2002, leaned further into electronic music and also received platinum status. In 2005, she signed with Warner Music Spain and released her self-titled album, which was recorded in Madrid and Milan, earning a gold certification.
Eurovision and television work
In December 2011, RTVE selected the singer to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 held in Baku, Azerbaijan. She performed the song Quédate conmigo, composed by Thomas G:son, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson, and Erik Bernholm. During the final event on May 26, 2012, she finished in 10th place with 97 points. The track also appeared on the year-end Spanish singles chart at number 35.
Personal life and career hiatus
Pastora Soler married choreographer Francis Viñolo on October 17, 2009. The couple has two daughters named Estrella, born in 2015, and Vega, born in 2020. Regarding her career, she briefly stepped away from the music industry starting in December 2014. This decision followed a fainting incident on stage in Seville during March 2014 and another departure from the stage during a concert in Málaga later that year, citing stage fright.
