Biography
Who is Raphinha?
Early life and background
Raphael Dias Belloli was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He spent his childhood in a favela called Restinga, which is located far from the city center. His family life included a father who worked as a musician in a samba band and a mother of mixed-race Brazilian heritage.
Growing up, Raphinha faced significant financial challenges. He once shared a bedroom with his parents, his brother, and the family pets. There were times when his family struggled to afford travel for matches or even find enough food, occasionally requiring him to ask strangers for assistance.
Football beginnings
His path to professional football was not easy. He participated in football schools at Internacional and Grêmio, but both clubs rejected him because he was considered too small and frail. After these failed trials, he played for a club called Porto Alegre, which was managed by the brother of Ronaldinho.
Raphinha later joined the youth ranks at Audax before the club was sold in 2013. He eventually moved to Imbituba in 2014, where he helped the under-20 team become runners-up in the Santa Catarina under-20 championship. This success helped him secure a position at Avaí in 2015.
European club career
In February 2016, Raphinha signed with the Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães. He made his professional debut against Paços de Ferreira in March 2016. During his time in Portugal, he won the Breakthrough Player of the Year award in 2017 and scored 18 goals during the 2017-18 Primeira Liga season.
He moved to Sporting CP in May 2018, where he won both the Taça de Portugal and the Taça da Liga in 2019. After his stint in Lisbon, he joined the French club Rennes in 2019 for a record transfer fee of approximately 21 million euros. At Rennes, he helped the team reach third place and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Success at Barcelona
Raphinha joined FC Barcelona in July 2022 on a five-year contract. Although he faced initial registration difficulties, he quickly became an important part of the squad. He won the Supercopa de España in early 2023 after a victory over Real Madrid.
The 2024-25 season served as a major breakthrough for him. During this period, he helped Barcelona secure a domestic treble consisting of the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España. He also finished the season as the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League.
