Who is Ruhi Çenet?
Early life and education
Ruhi Çenet entered the world on October 20, 1990 in Aydın, Turkey. His father worked as a professor assistant at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University. In 2016, the university discharged his father due to suspicions regarding the Gülen movement.
Ruhi went to India in 2017 to continue his education. He traveled throughout the country and created vlogs about his experiences. He later moved to the city of Istanbul.
YouTube career and achievements
Ruhi Çenet created his YouTube channel in November 2012. He started making videos when the platform was new in Turkey and monetization was not available. In 2021, he shifted to English language content to earn more money.
Social Blade lists him as the ninth most subscribed YouTuber in Turkey. In April 2019, he interviewed Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu. Maçoğlu is known as The Communist Mayor. Between April and June 2024, hackers targeted his channel three times and deleted all his videos.
Travels and documentary work
Ruhi visited Krubera Cave with Gennady Samokhin. The Crimean speleologist possibly discovered a new fish species during this path. As of 2024, the Crimean Federal University is studying the fish.
In April and May 2026, he filmed a documentary on the expedition ship MV Hondius. He wanted to visit the remote island of Tristan da Cunha. A hantavirus outbreak happened on the ship. Ruhi disembarked at Saint Helena on April 24 before the outbreak was announced globally. He criticized the safety response and entered self isolation.
Family and personal life
Ruhi Çenet married Cansu Gizem Çenet in August 2019. They have two children, including a son and a daughter. His sister Sümeyra also works as a YouTuber and frequently travels with him.
In December 2017, Ruhi Çenet crashed his car into a barrier on the Otoyol 5 motorway. He was traveling from Bursa to Istanbul at the time. He was treated for minor injuries at Orhangazi State Hospital. Ruhi stated that a lack of sleep caused the accident.
Public views and legal issues
Ruhi has publicly criticized the Gaza genocide and the persecution of Uyghurs in China. He has also spoken against the Belt and Road Initiative. He has criticized the leadership of Nicolás Maduro, Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin.
He was detained while filming in the Hürriyet neighborhood of Adana. He was accused of praising criminals and crime. He gave a statement and was then released.
