Who is Sarah Lacina?
Early life and education
Sarah Lacina grew up in Muscatine with her parents Lorrie and Ronald. Her mother worked in law enforcement. Sarah attended Muscatine High School where she competed as a four-sport athlete. During her youth in 1997, she qualified for the regional USA Track and Field Junior Olympics.
After finishing high school, Sarah attended Wartburg College located in Waverly, Iowa. She completed her studies and earned a Bachelor degree in social work in 2006. While enrolled at the college, she participated as a member of both the track and cross country teams.
Police career and fighting
Following her graduation, Sarah began working as a resource officer at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. She later joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department as a homicide investigator. Her job with the department allowed her to take leave to participate in various competitive television shows.
While working at the police department, she met officer and mixed martial arts fighter Tom Grubb. He inspired her to begin training in mixed martial arts. In January 2009, she started training to become a boxer under Joe Ruiz at the Apache Boxing Club in Cedar Rapids. She later competed in her first professional mixed martial arts fight in 2010, securing a victory by submission in the first round.
Survivor television career
In 2013, Sarah was selected as one of the castaways to compete on Survivor Cagayan. Starting on the Brawn tribe named Aparri, she formed an alliance called Cops-R-Us with fellow officer Tony Vlachos. She ultimately finished in eleventh place during that season and served as the first member of the jury.
Sarah returned for the thirty-fourth season, Survivor Game Changers, in 2017. She navigated between alliances and used advantages such as the vote-stealer and the Legacy Advantage to reach the end. She ultimately became the winner of the season, defeating Brad Culpepper and Troyzan Robertson in a final vote.
Challenge wins and personal life
In 2022, Sarah competed on the CBS television series The Challenge USA. She emerged as the female winner of the season and won a cash prize of two hundred fifty-four thousand five hundred dollars. Her victory qualified her to participate in The Challenge World Championship the following year.
Sarah lives in Marion, Iowa, with her husband and fellow police officer, Wyatt Wardenburg, along with their son, Knox. In October 2020, she appeared in a political advertisement for Ashley Hinson, a candidate running for the United States House of Representatives in Iowa.
