Biography
Who is Sebastian Bach?
Early life and background
Sebastian was born in Freeport, Bahamas, on April 3, 1968. He is the son of David Bierk, an artist who later painted artwork for Skid Row album covers such as Slave to the Grind and Subhuman Race. He was raised in Peterborough, Ontario, after his family moved to Canada during the early 1970s. He is one of seven siblings, including his brother Zac Bierk, who is a former professional hockey player.
His interest in music began early. At age eight, he joined a church choir, which inspired him to pursue singing. He later attended the Lakefield College School located in Lakefield, Ontario. As a teenager, he auditioned for the band Kid Wikkid in Peterborough. He was hired by the group leader and guitarist Jason Delorme despite the band members initially being unaware of his age.
Rise to fame with Skid Row
Sebastian Bach became the lead vocalist for Skid Row in 1987. The band was previously fronted by Matt Fallon, who left the group that same year. After hearing him sing at the wedding of rock photographer Mark Weiss, the parents of Jon Bon Jovi introduced Sebastian to Dave Sabo. Sabo was seeking a singer for his band, and this connection led to Sebastian joining the group.
He remained the lead singer of Skid Row until 1996. His departure followed disagreements regarding musical material and internal tensions within the band. While rumors suggested he left due to conflicts about playing as an opening act for Kiss, he was ultimately fired. The band later performed on the 2000 Kiss Farewell Tour without him.
Solo career and other projects
Following his time with Skid Row, Sebastian expanded his career into acting and solo music. In 2000, he debuted on Broadway in the title role of Jekyll & Hyde and appeared in The Rocky Horror Show the following year. He also had a recurring acting role as Gil on the television series Gilmore Girls between 2003 and 2007.
His solo music career includes albums such as Angel Down, released in 2007, and Kicking & Screaming, which came out in 2011. He also participated in reality television, including the show Supergroup in 2006, where he formed a band called Damnocracy. In 2024, he released his sixth studio album, Child Within the Man. Also, it was announced in early 2026 that he would join the band Twisted Sister as their lead singer.
Personal life and legal history
Sebastian married Maria Aquinar in the mid-1980s, and the couple had three children together before splitting in 2010. One of their sons, Paris, plays drums in Sebastian's solo band. He later married Suzanne Le in August 2015, and the couple resides in Las Vegas. He is a well-known collector of Kiss memorabilia, including items like vintage posters and gargoyles from photo sessions.
Throughout his career, he has faced several legal incidents. In 1989, he was arrested for throwing a bottle at a concert attendee. He was also arrested in 2002 after a dispute with a bartender and again in 2010 following an incident at a bar in Peterborough, Ontario. He also underwent surgery in 2017 to repair a singing-related hernia.
