Who is Shanna Moakler?
Early life and background
Shanna Moakler was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Growing up, she had two older brothers and an older sister. As a child, she spent weekends at her grandfather's farm where she enjoyed being outdoors. She was a competitive roller skater for twelve years, participating in events similar to ice skating competitions.
During her time at Barrington High School, she was a self-described dork until reaching puberty at age seventeen. By graduation, she had dated the football team captain and earned the title of best dressed. After high school, Shanna moved to Miami to pursue modeling, later relocating to New York City and eventually Los Angeles.
Pageant career and modeling
Shanna Moakler began her modeling career at age fifteen. She appeared in magazines like Cosmopolitan and Brentwood. In December 2001, she was named Playboy Playmate of the Month. She also worked on a Cutty Sark campaign photographed by David LaChapelle.
Her pageant career started when she represented Rhode Island in the Miss Teen USA 1992 pageant, finishing seventh. She won the Miss Teen All American title in 1993. In 1995, she was named Miss New York USA. She became the first runner-up at the Miss USA 1995 pageant and later received the crown when the winner, Chelsi Smith, became Miss Universe.
Television and acting roles
Shanna Moakler transitioned into television with early roles in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Due South. In 1998, she joined the cast of the USA Network drama Pacific Blue, playing Officer Monica Harper for two seasons. She also appeared in the 1997 NBC movie Friends Til the End.
In 2005, she and her then-husband Travis Barker starred in the MTV reality series Meet the Barkers, which documented their daily life and wedding. She appeared on several other reality programs, including VH1's Hollywood Exes, E!'s Bridalplasty, and the game show Search Party. In 2022, she competed as a HouseGuest on the third season of Celebrity Big Brother.
Personal life and relationships
Shanna Moakler had a relationship with musician Billy Idol in 1997, and the two appeared together in a scene for the film The Wedding Singer. Later that year, she began dating boxer Oscar De La Hoya. The couple became engaged in 1998 and share one daughter, Atiana De La Hoya. Their relationship ended in 2000.
She later married drummer Travis Barker of the band Blink-182. Together, they have two children, Landon Barker and Alabama Barker. The couple was featured in their own reality show, Meet the Barkers, which ran from 2005 to 2006.
