Early life and family
Stella Mwangi was born in Murang'a in the Central Province of Kenya on September 1, 1986. She spent her first five years living in Kenya before her family relocated to Eidsvoll in Norway in 1991. Her father ensured that she and her siblings maintained a strong connection to their heritage by teaching them the Gikuyu language and Swahili. He used cultural music and poetry for these lessons, which ultimately shaped Stella Mwangi and her artistic connection to Kenyan culture.
She began practicing music when she was eight years old and learned to play the piano. Her father sadly passed away following a hit-and-run accident in February 2012.
Musical career
Stella Mwangi established herself as a singer, rapper, songwriter, and model. Her musical style focuses primarily on pop music. Her work has been featured in several well-known films, including American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile and Save the Last Dance 2. In addition to films, her music has appeared in television series such as CSI: NY, Scrubs, and Survival of The Thickest.
She participated in the Norwegian national selection Melodi Grand Prix in 2011 to represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest. She won the national selection on February 12, 2011, and her winning song reached the top of the official singles chart in Norway during week 6 of that year. On May 10, she represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, Germany, performing the song Haba Haba. Later in her career, she competed in the Melodi Grand Prix 2018 alongside Alexandra Rotan with the song You Got Me, finishing in third place overall.

Stella Mwangi became engaged to her long-time partner Tom Roger Rogstad in 2011. She holds Kenyan and Norwegian backgrounds, splitting her life milestones between her birthplace in Nairobi and her home in Norway.
