Early life and real name
Steven St. Croix was born Ben Banks on February 24, 1968. He was born in Connecticut and raised as a Jehovah's Witness. During his childhood, he grew up in a strict and very religious household environment. At the age of 18, he had his first sexual experience.
Before entering the adult film industry, he pursued vocational training to become a mason. He also held jobs in telemarketing and adult video sales. This early professional background preceded his transition into film production and acting.

Steven St. Croix began his career in the adult film industry as a production assistant in December 1992. While working on the set of Deep Throat 6, he performed in his first scene after an actor failed to appear. Later that same month, the Free Speech Coalition presented him with the Positive Image Award for his efforts to dispel myths about adult entertainment.
In April 2013, he participated in a panel discussion on HuffPost Live alongside Danny Wylde to debate the implications of Measure B. Beyond his advocacy work, he is a published author. In February 2013, he released an e-book titled Porn Star: Everything You Want to Know and Are Embarrassed to Ask.
