Who is Sung Joon?
Early career and acting beginnings
Sung Joon began working in the entertainment industry as a model. He transitioned into acting by making his debut in the drama White Christmas in 2011. That same year, he took a supporting role in the series Lie to Me. He maintains strong friendships with fellow models Kim Young-kwang, Lee Soo-hyuk, Kim Woo-bin, and Hong Jong-hyun. Fans refer to this group as the Model Avengers.
Television acting roles
In 2012, he landed a lead role in the teen television drama Flower Band. He played the leader of a rock band in this series. He then appeared in Can We Get Married? In 2013 alongside Jung So-min. Later that year, he starred in his first historical drama titled Gu Family Book. In 2014, he played a songwriter in I Need Romance 3 and a plastic surgeon in Discovery of Love.
He continued working in various dramas throughout 2015 and 2016, including High Society, Hyde Jekyll, Me, and Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist. He also portrayed a lawyer in the 2017 series Ms. Perfect. His recent television work includes the 2024 series The Fiery Priest 2.
Film appearances
His film debut occurred with the movie Dangerously Excited. He also appeared in several films during 2013, specifically the horror movie Horror Stories 2 and the high school thriller titled Pluto. He returned to the big screen in 2021 for the film Ghost Mansion. This project marked his first film appearance four years after he completed his mandatory military service. Also, he participated in the web series Island, which aired between 2022 and 2023, as well as the 2023 project Call It Love.
Military service and personal life
He entered his mandatory military service on December 18, 2018. He finished five weeks of basic training at the 2nd Infantry Division of the Army in Gangwon Province. Before his service started, he was in a relationship with a non-celebrity girlfriend. The couple welcomed a child during that period. His agency, O& Entertainment, announced in August 2020 that he would hold a private wedding ceremony on September 12, 2020. He attended Eonnam High School in Seoul, where he was born.
