Early life and education
T. J. Miller was born on June 4, 1981, in Denver, Colorado. His parents are Leslie Miller, who worked as a clinical psychologist, and Kent Miller, an attorney originally from Chanute, Kansas. During his youth, he attended the Graland Country Day School and later graduated from East High School in Denver, where he began participating in various drama productions.
Comedy and career beginnings
Following his college graduation, T. Moved to Chicago to focus on improv and stand-up comedy, performing with numerous local groups. He spent two years touring with the improvisational comedy enterprise The Second City. In 2008, he earned industry recognition when Variety named him one of their 10 Comics to Watch. His early stand-up work included the 2011 special No Real Reason and the 2012 album Mash Up Audiofile.
Film and television success
T. J. Miller achieved significant success starring as Erlich Bachman in the critically acclaimed HBO sitcom Silicon Valley from 2014 until 2017. Revealed that he had been diagnosed with a cerebral arteriovenous malformation on his right frontal lobe. He underwent successful brain surgery, although the procedure carried a ten percent risk of fatality. He speaks fluent Spanish and describes himself as a positive nihilist.
