Who is Thomas Jane?
Early life and education
Thomas Jane was born Thomas Elliott III on February 22, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland. His father, Thomas Elliott Jr., worked as a genetic engineer, while his mother, Cynthia, was an antiques dealer. He eventually adopted his mother's maiden name to avoid confusion with another member of the Screen Actors Guild.
He attended Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School before leaving to pursue acting. During his early years, he worked at a hardware store and performed on the streets to make money. He later trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Acting and directing career
The actor began his professional path in 1986 with a role in the Indian film Padamati Sandhya Ragam. After moving to Hollywood, he appeared in several productions including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Nemesis. He earned critical attention for his portrayal of Mickey Mantle in the television movie 61* and for his work in the science fiction film Deep Blue Sea.
Thomas Jane is widely recognized for his leading role in the 2004 film The Punisher. To prepare for this part, he trained with Navy SEALs and increased his muscle mass significantly. His television credits include playing Ray Drecker in the HBO series Hung and Josephus Miller in The Expanse. He is also set to play Dr. Leonard Bones McCoy in the upcoming season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Beyond acting, he has ventured into directing with the 2009 crime thriller Dark Country. He has also contributed to the comic book industry as a writer and editor. His work on Bad Planet was released through Image Comics via his company, RAW.
Family and personal life
In 1989, he married Aysha Hauer, but the couple divorced in 1995. He later married actress Patricia Arquette in 2006 after they had a daughter together. Although they faced a brief divorce filing in 2009, they eventually finalized their separation in 2011 and share joint custody of Harlow Jane.
Thomas Jane has also been in a relationship with Anne Heche. He is known for his personal preference of walking barefoot at various public events and on film sets. In addition to his screen work, he has performed on stage in plays such as The Glass Menagerie and All My Sons.
