Early life and real name
Tiffany Haddish Sara Cornilia Haddish was born on December 3, 1979, in South Los Angeles, United States. Her father was an Eritrean Jew and her mother was an African-American small business owner. After her father left when she was three years old, her mother remarried and had four more children.
In 1988, her mother suffered severe brain damage in a car accident, leading to schizophrenia and domestic abuse. As the oldest sibling at age nine, Tiffany became the primary caregiver and used humor to diffuse tension. When she was thirteen, she and her siblings entered foster care before moving in with their grandmother at age fifteen.
How Tiffany became famous
Tiffany started her career in comedy after her social worker gave her an ultimatum to attend psychiatric therapy or the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp in 1997. She chose the comedy camp, which helped her find an outlet for her personal pain and led to mentorship from well-known comedians like Richard Pryor and the Wayans brothers.
Her early television appearances included roles on Chelsea Lately, That's So Raven, and a recurring part on Real Husbands of Hollywood. She later joined the cast of the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series If Loving You Is Wrong before leaving to star in the NBC sitcom The Carmichael Show from 2015 to 2017.

Tiffany achieved a major breakthrough in 2017 by starring alongside Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Queen Latifah in the comedy film Girls Trip. The movie grossed over $140 million worldwide and earned her critical acclaim for her performance as Dina.
