Early life and education
Tom Conti was born on November 22, 1941, in Paisley, United Kingdom. He was born to a mother of Irish heritage and an Italian father, both of whom worked as hairdressers. Raised in a Catholic household, he attended St Aloysius' College in Glasgow, which was an independent school for boys.
Following his secondary schooling, he went on to receive professional training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He began his professional acting career in 1959 while working with the Dundee Repertory. These early years provided the foundation for his long career in British theatre and television.
Stage and screen career
Tom Conti gained significant recognition for his stage work. He won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play and a Laurence Olivier Award for his role in Whose Life Is It Anyway?, which he performed in both London and New York. In 2004, Tom released a novel titled The Doctor, which focuses on the life of a former pilot involved in secret intelligence operations. The manuscript was recommended to a publisher by his friend Lynsey De Paul.
Regarding his personal life, he has been married to actress Kara Wilson since 1967. The couple has one daughter, Nina Conti, who works as an actress and a ventriloquist.
