Early life and real name
Tom Cruise was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, United States. His parents were electrical engineer Thomas Cruise Mapother III and special education teacher Mary Lee Pfeiffer. He grew up with three sisters named Lee Anne, Marian, and Cass.
During his childhood, he attended numerous different schools due to family relocations. He spent time living in Canada when his father took a job with the Canadian Armed Forces, attending Robert Hopkins Public School and Henry Munro Middle School in Ottawa. Later, he attended Henry Munro Middle School, Glen Ridge High School, and St. Xavier High School.
How Tom became famous
At age eighteen, Tom moved to New York City and later Los Angeles to pursue acting roles. He made his film debut with a bit part in Endless Love and followed it with a supporting role in Taps.
