Early life and education
Thomas James Ridgewell was born on June 27, 1990, in Suffolk, England. He spent his childhood in Essex and later lived in Cambridge. During his early years, he used a video camera belonging to his parents to make short films.
He attended King's College School and later studied Media Production at the University of Lincoln. While at university, he produced unofficial advertisements that were shown on the BBC and reached millions of viewers. He previously attended Long Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge.
Career highlights
The creator known as TomSka started the website CakeBomb to host his various creative projects. This platform featured his animated series asdfmovie and the series Eddsworld. He served as the showrunner for Eddsworld from 2012 until 2016. He also founded the London-based media company TurboPunch Limited in January 2012.
His work includes the animated series asdfmovie, which features surreal short clips. He released a book titled Art is Dead: the asdf book in 2015. In 2019, he collaborated with Big Potato Games to develop the Muffin Time card game. This project successfully raised over £1,000,000 through a Kickstarter campaign.
Personal life and health
Ridgewell has been open about his mental health, including a diagnosis of severe depression in 2013. He was also diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in 2021. He previously grew up as a Jehovah's Witness but does not practice that faith today.
In December 2023, his partner Charlie Belle announced their engagement. Ridgewell revealed that he had proposed during the Christmas holiday. He has also used his platform to discuss social topics like mental health and personal relationships.
