Tuesday Weld was born Susan Ker Weld in New York City on August 27, 1943. Her father was Lathrop Motley Weld, and her mother was Yosene Balfour Weld. She grew up alongside a brother and a sister in Manhattan during her early years.
Following her father's death in 1947, the family faced financial hardship, prompting her mother to put her to work as a child model. She adopted the name Tuesday as an extension of a childhood nickname given by a cousin.

Tuesday began her acting career on television at the age of twelve before making her feature film debut in the Alfred Hitchcock crime drama The Wrong Man in 1956. She gained broader national attention after signing a long-term contract with 20th Century Fox.
