Biography
Who is Tyias Browning?
Early life and heritage
Tyias Browning was born in the city of Liverpool, located in the United Kingdom. During his youth, he attended Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, where he pursued his studies before dedicating his time fully to football training. His path to professional sports began locally, as he spent several months playing for a community team before scouts took notice of his abilities.
His heritage played a significant role in his later career decisions. His maternal grandfather was named Ying-Wing Chiang, who was a chef from Macclesfield. This grandfather originally moved from Meige Village in Xinhui County, China. This familial link later allowed Tyias to obtain naturalized Chinese citizenship in 2019, which helped him transition into the Chinese football system. After completing this process, he adopted the name Jiang Guangtai for his professional activities within the country.
Everton and English club career
At the age of ten, Tyias joined Everton. He spent much of his developing years within their youth setup, where he learned to play as both a centre-back and a right-back. He eventually became a regular for the reserve team, even serving as captain during his progression. In the 2010–11 season, he helped the reserve squad secure the U18 Premier League title. By the end of the 2013–14 season, his hard work was recognized when he received the Under-21s Player of the Season award at the club's annual ceremony.
Throughout his time at Everton, he went on several loan spells to gain more experience. In early 2014, he joined Wigan Athletic for a month, making his professional debut during a victory against AFC Bournemouth. Later, in 2017, he signed a deal with Preston North End, where he played regularly until a knee injury interrupted his progress. He also completed a season-long loan with Sunderland, where he featured in twenty-nine matches across all competitions. This period was challenging, as the team struggled in the league, but it provided him with consistent playing time at a senior level.
Move to China and international play
In February 2019, Tyias made a major career move by transferring to the Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande. The transition was complicated by the league's evolving regulations regarding naturalized players. Initially, he could only be registered as a foreign player, which restricted his participation for a portion of the season. Despite this, he remained with the club and eventually returned to the team as a Chinese player for the 2020 season. His time there was marked by team success, including a Chinese Super League title win.
Following his stint in Guangzhou, he moved to Shanghai Port in August 2022. He made an immediate impact, scoring his first goal for the club during an away match against Henan Songshan Longmen. In 2023, he celebrated another league championship victory while playing for his new team. On the international stage, Tyias previously represented England at the under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels. After his naturalization, he became eligible to play for the China national team. He received his first call-up in 2020 and eventually made his senior international debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Guam in 2021.
