Who is Tyler Blackburn?
Early life and background
Tyler Blackburn Jordon Blackburn was born in Burbank, California. He grew up with one older sister and three younger brothers. During his youth, he attended Saugus High School.
At the age of 10, he had a benign bone tumor removed from his left shoulder. This surgery left him with a scar that is approximately 4 inches long.
Early acting career
Tyler began his performing career in 2004 with a role on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous. The following year, he appeared as a teacher in a short film titled The Doers of Coming Deeds. He continued to build his resume with a cameo in the 2008 film Next of Kin.
In 2009, he appeared in the series Cold Case and the Josh Schwartz web series titled Rockville CA. By 2010, he secured roles on Days of Our Lives and Gigantic, and acted in the independent film Peach Plum Pear.
Major television roles
In October 2010, Tyler was cast as Caleb Rivers in the television show Pretty Little Liars. He eventually became a series regular starting with the third season in the summer of 2012. He later reprised this character in the 2013 spin-off series titled Ravenswood.
In March 2018, he joined the cast of the CW series Roswell, New Mexico. He played the character Alex Manes, who served as a love interest for Michael Guerin. He remained a regular cast member for all four seasons until the show concluded in 2022. Earlier in his career, he also starred as Pete in a six-episode web series based on Peter Pan called Wendy, which premiered in September 2011.
Music projects
Tyler has contributed music to several of his acting projects. In 2011, he recorded the song Save Me by Golden State for the web series Wendy. He also recorded the track Find a Way in 2012 for the show The Secret Life of the American Teenager. This song appeared in other programs like The Fosters and Pretty Little Liars.
In 2013, he released an extended play titled Find My Way on Apple Music. He has also collaborated with the artist Novi on the track Can't Love Me, which was featured in an episode of Roswell, New Mexico. Also, he performed the song Would You Come Home while playing his character Alex Manes during the second season of that same series.
Personal life
In an interview with The Advocate on April 19, 2019, Tyler publicly came out as queer and bisexual. He explained that he had identified as bisexual since he was a teenager. He noted that he suppressed his feelings toward men until his late 20s due to the impact of biphobia.
