Who is Will Forte?
Early life and education
Will Forte was born Orville Willis Forte IV on June 17, 1970, in Alameda County, United States. His mother worked as an artist and schoolteacher, while his father was employed as a financial broker. Will grew up in Moraga and later moved to Lafayette with his family when he was thirteen years old. During his early years, he went by the name Billy until school teasing prompted him to adopt the name Will.
Career beginnings
Before pursuing comedy full time, Will considered working as a financial broker like his father at Smith Barney Shearson. He felt unhappy in that role, however, and instead began taking classes at The Groundlings, an improvisational and sketch comedy school in Los Angeles. To support himself during this period, he worked as a children's tutor. His early creative projects included a comic book titled 101 Things to Definitely Not Do If You Want to Get a Chick.
Saturday Night Live and MacGruber
In 2001, Will was spotted by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels while performing with the Groundlings. Although he initially declined an offer to join the show due to other commitments, he later joined the cast at the start of the twenty-eighth season in autumn. He spent eight seasons as a writer and cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series from 2002 to 2010. His tenure on the program included various recurring characters and celebrity impressions, such as George W. Bush.
Later television and film work
After leaving Saturday Night Live, Will created and starred in the sitcom The Last Man on Earth, which aired from 2015 to 2018. His work on the series earned him three Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including two for acting and one for writing. In film, he appeared in various comedy productions before taking on a role in the drama film Nebraska in 2013.
