Who is Willow Shields?
Early life and family
Willow Shields was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 1, 2000. She grew up with a brother named River and a twin sister named Autumn. Both of her siblings are also actors. Her father, Rob Shields, worked as an art teacher during her childhood.
Acting beginnings
The first professional job for Willow Shields occurred in 2008 with a narrating role in the short film Las Vegas New Mexico 1875. Her screen debut followed in 2009 with a guest appearance on the USA drama series In Plain Sight. She played the character Lisa Rogan in an episode titled In My Humboldt Opinion.
In 2011, she appeared in the television film Beyond the Blackboard. She worked alongside actress Emily VanCamp and portrayed a homeless child named Grace. This role helped establish her presence in television before she moved into feature film work.
The Hunger Games film series
In April 2011, Willow was cast as Primrose Everdeen in the science fiction adventure film The Hunger Games. This served as her first major feature film role. The project was released in March 2012 and became a big commercial success, breaking several box-office records.
Willow reprised her character for the entire film franchise. This included the sequels The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part 1, and Mockingjay Part 2. The four movies grossed a combined total of nearly three billion dollars worldwide. For her work in the second and fourth installments, she earned nominations for a Young Hollywood Award and an MTV Award.
Television and other projects
In 2015, Willow competed on the twentieth season of the reality series Dancing with the Stars. She was paired with professional dancer Mark Ballas and finished in seventh place. At the time, she was fourteen years old, making her the youngest competitor to ever appear on the show.
She later headlined the independent coming-of-age film Woodstock or Bust in 2018, playing the character Lorian. This performance won her an award at the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival. In 2020, she starred as Serena Baker in the Netflix original series Spinning Out, a drama centered on figure skating. The show ran for one season. She also performed in the fantasy film Into the Rainbow, which was released internationally in 2017.
