Biography
Who is Zdeněk Grygera?
Early football career and Czech clubs
Zdeněk Grygera was born in Přílepy, Czechia, on May 14, 1980. He began his professional path in his home country by playing for FC Zlín and later joining FK Drnovice. His performance at the club level quickly led to a move to AC Sparta Prague, one of the most prominent teams in the region. During his time with Sparta Prague, he helped the squad secure the Gambrinus Liga title in the 2000–01 and 2002–03 seasons.
His defensive skills and ability to play across the back line made him a valuable asset. While playing in the Czech Republic, he established himself as a reliable right-back and center-back. This early success in his domestic league provided the foundation for his transition to major leagues across Europe. He eventually left his home country in 2003 to seek new challenges in the Netherlands.
Success with Ajax and Juventus
In July 2003, Zdeněk Grygera signed with the Dutch club AFC Ajax for a fee of approximately 3.5 million euros. He became a significant figure for the team, scoring his first goal in a 5–0 victory against Den Bosch in September 2004. After four years in Amsterdam, Zdeněk moved to Italy to join Juventus FC in 2007. He joined the Italian giants on a Bosman transfer after his contract with Ajax ended. One of his most memorable moments for the club occurred in April 2009 when he scored a late equalizing goal against Internazionale in the Derby d'Italia. He remained with the Italian side until 2011, continuing to demonstrate his competitiveness and work rate as a wing-back on the right flank.
Move to Fulham and international play

During a match against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2011, he suffered a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament, which ended his season.
On the international stage, Zdeněk was a key player for the Czech Republic. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA U-21 Championship in 2002. He earned his first senior cap in 2001 during a match against South Korea. He participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he provided an assist for a goal against the United States.
