Early life and background
Alex Borstein was born on February 15, 1971, in Highland Park, Illinois. She grew up in a Jewish household with parents who worked as mental health professionals. Her father has roots in Atlanta and comes from a family of Polish and Russian descent. Her mother and grandmother were Holocaust survivors who moved to the United States following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The actress spent her childhood in Deerfield, Illinois, before relocating to Northridge, California. She attended Chatsworth High School and later graduated from San Francisco State University. During her time at university, she focused her studies on the subject of rhetoric.
