Who is Alyson Stoner?
Early life and education
Alyson Stoner was born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 11, 1993. Their parents are LuAnne Hodges and Charlie Stoner. While growing up in Toledo, Alyson attended Maumee Valley Country Day School and studied ballet, tap dance, and jazz dance at a local studio. They also trained at a modeling studio and won Best Model of the Year at an international convention in New York City in 2000.
Career highlights
Alyson gained early recognition as the co-host of Mike's Super Short Show on Disney Channel beginning in 2002. They played Sarah Baker in the family comedies Cheaper by the Dozen and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 alongside a large cast of children. In 2006, they appeared as Camille in the dance film Step Up, later returning for the third installment of the franchise. They also portrayed Caitlyn Gellar in the musical television film Camp Rock and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
As a voice actor, Alyson provided the voice of Isabella Garcia-Shapiro in the animated series Phineas and Ferb across multiple seasons. They voiced Kairi and Xion in several entries of the Kingdom Hearts video game series and portrayed Opal in The Legend of Korra. Before transitioning into primary acting roles, Alyson worked extensively as a backup dancer. They performed in music videos for prominent artists such as Missy Elliott, Eminem, Outkast, and Will Smith. In 2015, they released a viral dance tribute video featuring a medley of choreography from early Missy Elliott music videos, which led to a live performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2019.
Expanding into writing, Alyson published a memoir titled Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything in 2025. The book focuses on their experiences with child stardom, family dynamics, and personal challenges, debuting near the top of the Publishers Weekly Bestseller List.
Personal life
Alyson has spoken publicly about handling mental health struggles and eating disorders stemming from early pressures in the entertainment industry. They sought treatment at a rehabilitation facility in 2011 and credit therapy with aiding their recovery. In 2018, Alyson shared details about their attraction to multiple genders, and in 2023, they publicly came out as non-binary while using they and them pronouns.
