Early life
Amanda Peet was born on January 11, 1972, in New York City, United States. Her mother was Penny Peet, a social worker, and her father was Charles Peet Jr., a corporate lawyer. When she was seven years old, Amanda moved with her family to London before returning to New York four years later.
She attended Friends Seminary in Manhattan and later graduated from Columbia University with a degree in American history. Amanda enrolled in HB Studio's teen acting program at age 13. During her studies with Uta Hagen, she appeared in an off-Broadway revival of Awake and Sing!
Acting career
Amanda began her acting career with small television parts and a commercial for Skittles. She made her feature film debut in the 1995 drama Animal Room. In the late 1990s, she appeared in several independent films, including One Fine Day and She's the One.
Her breakthrough came with the role of Jill St. Claire in the 2000 comedy film The Whole Nine Yards, which grossed over one hundred million dollars worldwide. She also starred as Jacqueline Barrett in the television series Jack & Jill from 1999 to 2001.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Amanda appeared in numerous high-profile films and television shows. She starred in the romantic comedies Something's Gotta Give and A Lot Like Love, as well as the thriller Identity. In 2009, she played the estranged wife of John Cusack in the disaster film 2012, which became her most widely seen movie.
