Born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk in Chicago on September 17, 1968, she grew up in a family with artistic backgrounds. Her mother worked as a Broadway actress, while her father performed as a club singer. After her parents divorced and her father left the family, she moved to New York with her mother and siblings at age 15, attending the Professional Children's School despite struggling with dyslexia.
Career beginnings
Before achieving mainstream success in the music industry, she worked a variety of jobs, including aerobics instructor, secretary, hairdresser, sales assistant, cashier, waitress, and pastry shop employee. In 1983, she started her professional path as a dancer at a New York club called 1018.
