Early life and education
Cheryl Hines Ruth Hines was born on September 21, 1965, in Miami Beach, Florida, to parents James and Rosemary. She spent much of her childhood in Tallahassee, where she participated in the Young Actors Theatre. During her early years, the family faced financial hardships, and she reportedly did not have her own bed until after graduating from high school.
She continued her education locally by attending Lively Technical Center and Tallahassee State College. Later, she enrolled at the University of Central Florida, where she successfully earned a degree in radio and television production in 1990.
Acting career and Curb Your Enthusiasm
Cheryl started her professional acting path by performing improvisational comedy at The Groundlings Theater. Early in her career, she made guest television appearances on programs such as Swamp Thing and Unsolved Mysteries, and she even appeared as a contestant on an episode of The Dating Game in 1996.
Her career changed significantly when she was cast as Cheryl David on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm, starring alongside Larry David. The role earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003 and 2006. She continued with the show through its long run until 2024.

Beyond her signature television role, Cheryl has appeared in several feature films. Her movie credits include roles in RV starring Robin Williams, Waitress with Keri Russell, and the poker-themed mockumentary The Grand. Cheryl married Paul Young in December 2002, and the couple welcomed a daughter named Catherine Rose Young in March 2004. After nearly eight years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce in July 2010.
Later, she began dating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. After being introduced by her former co-star Larry David. The couple married in August 2014 at the Kennedy Compound on Cape Cod. Alongside her career, she has maintained a long involvement in advocacy work with United Cerebral Palsy, serving on the organization's board of trustees.
