Early life and real name
Born Nyadak Thot, the model grew up in Melbourne, Australia. She was the first of seven siblings to be born in the country. Her parents arrived in Australia as refugees from South Sudan during her mother's pregnancy.
She attended Maranatha Christian School and finished her studies in 2013. Her classmates and teachers often struggled to pronounce her birth name. Because of this, she began using the nickname Duckie, which she now uses professionally.

Her sister Nikki Perkins, a model and YouTube creator, introduced her to the fashion industry. Duckie Thot auditioned for the eighth season of Australia's Next Top Model in 2013. She finished the competition as the final contestant to be eliminated.
She walked the runway for David Jones in 2016. Seeking better opportunities for models of color, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. After meeting with various agencies, she signed with New York Model Management.
