Biography
Who is Hannah Hart?
Early life and education
Hannah Hart Maud Hart was born in the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States. She attended Burlingame High School during her youth. Later, she enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated from this institution in May 2009 with a double major in Japanese linguistics and English literature.
Her childhood involved living with her sister and mother after her parents separated when she was an infant. Her mother managed life with psychosis during this period. These early experiences in the Bay Area provided the foundation for her later career.
Professional beginnings
Following her university graduation, Hannah moved to San Francisco to live with a friend. She eventually relocated to Brooklyn to pursue a writing career. Instead of writing screenplays as originally planned, she worked for a Manhattan translating firm, proofreading documents in Japanese and English.
Her time in this corporate role was short. Within two months of starting her YouTube channel, she resigned from her job to focus full time on creating content. This decision marked the official transition into her career as an internet personality.
My Drunk Kitchen and internet fame
The viral series My Drunk Kitchen began in March 2011. While at her sister's house, she recorded herself using a webcam while attempting to make a grilled cheese sandwich without cheese. She drank wine during the process. After uploading the footage, viewers requested more episodes. To formalize the series, she renamed the initial video Butter Yo Shit.
By July 2011, the series reached 800,000 views. She has hosted guests like Jamie Oliver, Mary-Louise Parker, and John Green. She featured comedian Sarah Silverman in 2014 to discuss the medicinal use of cannabis. She won a Streamy Award for Best Female Performance in a Comedy in 2013. As of June 2015, her main channel held over 2.3 million subscribers.
Touring and collaborations
In 2013, Hannah launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund a world tour. She aimed to raise 50,000 dollars but eventually secured over 220,000 dollars. The Hello Harto tour included a team consisting of producer Pearl Wible, director Sam Molleur, and RV driver Nick Underwood. She filmed travel and kitchen segments for this tour.
