Early life and education
Leyla Hazal Kaya was born on October 1, 1990, in Gaziantep, Turkey, though some sources note her birthplace as Konya, Turkey. Her parents, who both worked as lawyers, divorced when she was seven years old. Growing up, she was introduced to the arts at a very young age and spent seven years taking lessons in both ballet and violin. She attended Gaziosmanpaşa elementary school and later graduated from the Liceo Italiano di Istanbul in 2009. Following her secondary education, she enrolled at Istanbul Bilgi University to pursue her higher education.
Acting career beginnings
Hazal Kaya started her professional acting career in 2006 by appearing in the television series Genco, where she played the character Özge. During this early period, she also took on guest roles in several other projects, including the fantasy series Acemi Cadı, which was a Turkish version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, as well as popular shows like Sıla and Taşların Sırrı. These early television appearances helped her gain initial recognition in the Turkish entertainment industry and paved the way for larger and more prominent roles.

A major turning point in her career happened when she took on the lead role of Feriha Yilmaz in the first two seasons of the hit television series Adını Feriha Koydum, which ran from 2011 to 2012. Playing a porter's daughter caught between two different worlds who falls in love with a wealthy university student, her performance earned widespread acclaim. The series achieved some of the highest television ratings in Turkey during its broadcast. After leaving that show, she appeared in several other projects, including Son Yaz Balkanlar 1912 and A.Ş.K, before starring as Maral Erdem in the 2015 series Maral: En Güzel Hikayem opposite Aras Bulut İynemli.

Hazal Kaya married actor Ali Atay on February 6, 2019, in a ceremony attended by colleagues, friends, and family. The couple welcomed their son later that same year, and their family grew further with the birth of their daughter in February 2023. Outside of her family life, she has maintained a high profile in the media and is widely recognized as one of Turkey's highest-paid actresses. Her international recognition includes being named among the most influential names in the world by Ichaps in 2014, receiving the medal of international excellence, and being the sole Turkish recipient of the Lebanon Awards in 2015.
