Who is Idan Roll?
Early life and education
Idan Roll was born in Jerusalem, Israel, on April 27, 1984. As a child, he moved to Mevaseret Zion and attended Harel High School.
In 2002, he began his national service in the Israel Defense Forces, serving in a technology unit within the Israeli Intelligence Corps in central Israel. He completed an officer course and became a cadet commander before serving in the reserves within the Military Intelligence Directorate.
Political career
Idan Roll entered politics by joining the Yesh Atid party and leading its LGBTQ+ group, after previously being a member of the New Likudniks faction of Likud. He ran on the Yesh Atid list for the Tel Aviv-Yafo city council in the 2018 municipal elections.
He joined the Knesset in 2019 through the Blue and White alliance, although he lost his seat later that year when the alliance size was reduced. He returned to the Knesset in 2020 after Yael German resigned. During this term, he served on the Economy Committee and the Labor, Welfare and Health Committee, while chairing several lobbies focused on business, cannabis, online privacy, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Book publication and personal life
In January 2025, Idan Roll published a book titled Open the Gates. The book examines the political system in Israel, arguing that the Israeli democracy changed from a lively environment into an exclusive club where political elites prevent new forces from gaining power.
In 2016, readers of Yedioth Ahronoth voted him Israel's sexiest man alive. On March 5, 2021, he married pop singer Harel Skaat in Provo, Utah, United States.
