Who is Isla Fisher?
Early Life and Education
Isla Lang Fisher was born on February 3, 1976, in Muscat. Her parents are Elspeth Reid and Brian Fisher. During her early years, her father worked as a banker for the United Nations. The family eventually relocated to their hometown of Bathgate, West Lothian, before moving to Australia when she was six years old. They settled in Perth, Western Australia. Isla has four brothers and has described her childhood in Perth as having a very outdoorsy life. She felt her sensibility was Australian and maintained a laid-back attitude.
Acting Career Beginnings
Isla made her professional acting debut in 1993. She appeared in two guest roles on the shows Bay City and Paradise Beach. Before this, she performed in television commercials starting at age nine. Between 1994 and 1997, she played the character Shannon Reed on the Australian soap opera Home and Away. This role involved a heavy workload, often requiring 15 hours of work per day. She learned her lines and acted in front of a big audience, which she viewed as a valuable apprenticeship.
Transition to Hollywood
In 2002, she moved to Hollywood and secured a supporting role in the live-action film Scooby-Doo. She played the love interest of the character Shaggy Rogers. Although the film received mixed reviews, it was a commercial success. She gained representation shortly after this project. In 2005, she achieved a breakthrough with the comedy Wedding Crashers.
