Early life
Jessica Szohr was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, on March 31, 1985. She grew up as the oldest of five children in her family, alongside her siblings Megan, Danielle, Nick, and Sadie. During her childhood, she started modeling and appeared in print advertisements for Kohl's department store, followed by gigs for brands like Crate and Barrel, Mountain Dew, Sears, Jockey, and JanSport.
She attended Menomonee Falls High School and graduated a semester early. At the age of seventeen, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue an acting career. Before finding steady work in television, she initially enrolled in Columbia College Chicago with the goal of becoming an interior designer, but her agent convinced her to attend auditions instead.
Acting career
Jessica Szohr made her television debut in 2003 with an appearance on My Wife and Kids. She subsequently appeared in guest roles on various teen television programs, including That's So Raven, Drake and Josh, and What I Like About You. She also played Samantha Barrish in three episodes of CSI: Miami and appeared in six episodes of What About Brian in 2007.
Her major breakthrough came in 2007 when she was cast as Vanessa Abrams on The CW teen drama series Gossip Girl. Originally appearing in a recurring capacity, she was promoted to a series regular and stayed with the show until 2011, later returning for a cameo appearance in the 2012 series finale. In addition to television, she has appeared in several feature films, such as the horror movie Piranha 3D in 2010, the comedy The Internship in 2013, and Ted 2 in 2015.
Recent projects
Following her time on Gossip Girl, Jessica Szohr continued taking on diverse television and film roles. She joined the cast of the Fox science fiction series The Orville as Talla Keyali during its second season starting in 2018. Her television credits also feature appearances in Complications, Kingdom, Twin Peaks, and Shameless.
