Early life
Johnny Galecki was born in Bree, United States, on March 30, 1975. His mother worked as a mortgage consultant, while his father served in the United States Air Force and later worked as a rehabilitation teacher. Johnny grew up alongside his siblings in Oak Park, Illinois, after spending part of his early childhood in Belgium.
As a young child, Johnny developed an interest in the Chicago theatre scene and started acting early. He left formal schooling after completing the eighth grade, attending high school for just a single day before pursuing his acting career full time.
Television career
Johnny Galecki made his onscreen acting debut in a 1987 television miniseries. He appeared in various guest roles on popular television shows before landing a recurring role on the sitcom Roseanne as David Healy in 1992. He remained on the show until its original run ended in 1997, and later returned for appearances on the revival series and the spin-off show The Conners.
In 2007, Johnny began playing experimental physicist Leonard Hofstadter in the CBS comedy series The Big Bang Theory. The show ran for twelve seasons until 2007 and became one of the most popular television comedies in the United States. His performance on the series earned him significant financial success and industry recognition.
Film and stage work
Alongside his extensive television work, Johnny Galecki appeared in several feature films throughout his career. In 1989, he played Rusty Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and also appeared in the family film Prancer. His later film credits include Suicide Kings, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and In Time.
Johnny also pursued theatre work throughout his career, performing in stage productions. In 2006, he originated a role in the play The Little Dog Laughed during its off Broadway run and later on Broadway, winning a Theatre World Award for his performance. As a teenager, he dated his Roseanne co-star Sara Gilbert, and the two remained close friends after their relationship ended. While working on The Big Bang Theory, he dated co-star Kaley Cuoco for approximately two years until they separated in 2009.
Johnny later began a relationship with Alaina Meyer, and the couple welcomed a son in November 2019 before separating the following year. He is currently married to Morgan Galecki, and the couple welcomed a daughter in 2024. In addition to acting, he is a skilled cellist, a talent that was occasionally incorporated into his television work.
