Who is Sara Gilbert?
Early life and education
Sara Gilbert was born Sara Rebecca Abeles on January 29, 1975, in Santa Monica, California. She is the daughter of Barbara Cowan and Harold Abeles. Her maternal grandfather was Harry Crane, a co-creator of the television program The Honeymooners. She has several half-siblings and adopted siblings, including actors Melissa Gilbert and Jonathan Gilbert, who were known for their roles on the series Little House on the Prairie.
In 1984, she officially adopted the last name Gilbert from Paul Gilbert, who was her mother's first husband. Following her early television work, she attended Yale University. She graduated from the school in 1997 with honors. Her major was art with a specific focus on photography. During her university years, she continued to work on the sitcom Roseanne, with production schedules adjusted to allow her to film scenes remotely from a New York soundstage.

She began her professional career appearing in television commercials and movies. At age 13, she landed the role of Darlene Conner on the sitcom Roseanne. Personal life and relationships
As a teenager, she dated her co-star Johnny Galecki. During this time, she realized she was a lesbian. She later entered a relationship with television producer Ali Adler in 2001. The couple had two children together. In 2010, she publicly confirmed her sexual orientation while preparing to launch The Talk. She and Adler separated in 2011.
She subsequently began a relationship with songwriter and producer Linda Perry. The two became engaged in 2013 and married in 2014. They had a son together in 2015. In December 2019, she filed for legal separation from Perry.
