Early life and family
Joshua Carter Jackson was born on June 11, 1978, in Vancouver, British Columbia. His mother, Fiona, worked as a casting director, while his father hailed from Texas. He has a younger sister named Aisleagh and two older half-brothers, Jonathan and Lyman.
During his childhood, he lived in California until he was eight years old. He then returned to Vancouver with his mother and sister. Joshua attended the Ideal Mini School and later transferred to Kitsilano Secondary School. He was raised in the Roman Catholic faith.

Joshua Jackson began his acting career in 1991 with a small part in the film Crooked Hearts. The following year, he appeared as Charlie in a musical production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This experience led him to join the William Morris Agency.
