Early life
Lily Donaldson Monica Donaldson was born on January 27, 1987, in Hammersmith, United Kingdom. She grew up as the daughter of photographer Matthew Donaldson and attended The Camden School for Girls in London.
During her youth, she lived in Kentish Town alongside her family. She has a younger sister named Aurelia and a younger half-brother named Jesse.
Career beginnings
Lily was scouted by Select Model Management in 2003 at the age of sixteen while shopping in Camden. She made her runway debut during the Fall and Winter season of 2004, walking for designers such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Missoni, and Jill Sander.
She quickly landed major fashion campaigns for global fashion houses including Burberry, Gucci, Versace, and Gap.
Runway and magazine success
In May 2007, she appeared on the cover of American Vogue as one of the World's Next Top Models alongside several other prominent figures. Later that year, British Vogue named her a Head Girl to watch out for in the upcoming season.
Lily has appeared on thirty international editions of Vogue, covering countries such as Britain, America, Italy, China, Australia, Japan, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, Portugal, Spain, and Russia. Vogue Paris also declared her one of the top thirty models of the 2000s in 2009.
She made her debut in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2010 and continued walking in the annual shows through 2016. In 2012, she participated in the London Summer Olympics closing ceremony, wearing a bespoke gold ball gown by Vivienne Westwood alongside other British models.
Personal life
Lily is close friends with fellow models Gemma Ward and Irina Lazareanu, having shot two Mulberry campaigns with the latter. After living in New York City for five years, she moved back to London in late 2010.
Her family includes well-known figures in the entertainment industry, as her great-uncle is Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood and her great-aunt was actress Susan Fleetwood.
