Who is Macarena Achaga?
Early life and background
Macarena Achaga Figueroa was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Her parents worked as architects. She grew up as the eldest child in her family and has a brother named Santiago, who is eight years her junior.
At the age of 15, she started her professional path in the modeling industry. During this time, she spent five hours every week traveling by bus from Mar del Plata to Buenos Aires to attend her various modeling jobs.
Modeling and television career
She began her modeling work with Pink Model Management and later worked with Multitalent Agency in Buenos Aires. Her early career included appearances in magazines like Joy and Para Ti, as well as a 2010 commercial for Marinela cookies. By age 18, she was working in both Mexico and France.
Macarena Achaga transitioned into television in 2010 as a co-host for the MTV Latin America show Los 10+ Pedidos. Her acting career took off in 2011 when she was cast as Leonora Martínez in the musical series Miss XV. This role led her to move permanently to Mexico City.
In 2013, she played Jenny Parra in the Mexican production Gossip Girl: Acapulco. To prepare for this role, she took speech lessons to refine her accent. She also starred in the short film El Librito Rojo in Guanajuato during the same year.
Music and later roles
As part of the cast of Miss XV, she joined the pop group Eme 15. The band consisted of six members and released the music video Wonderland in 2012. The musical group remained active until their final concert in Acapulco in January 2014.
Later in her career, she appeared in the series La piloto and the drama La bella y las bestias. In 2018, she began playing Valentina Carvajal in the series Amar a muerte. This role featured a prominent lesbian storyline that reached a large international audience.
Personal life
Macarena moved to Mexico City following her casting in Miss XV and still lives there. She has been a vegetarian since March 2013. She was previously in a relationship with actor Sebastian Zurita from early 2014 until the end of that year.
In 2021, she confirmed that she was in a relationship with Juanpa Zurita. They met while filming the production Luis Miguel: La Serie 2.
